Support & Guidance

Social Work Services

Issues surrounding healthcare can be overwhelming. At Wentworth-Douglass, social workers are here to help provide psychosocial support, resource information and assistance to patients, patient’s families, caregivers, and community members. We can help answer some of your biggest questions, such as:

  • What if I have no insurance?
  • What kind of help can I get at home?
  • What supports and programs are in my community?

Social workers are also prepared to offer emotional support and guidance when health care decisions are impacting your emotional health, including:

  • Who will help guide me and my family through my illness?
  • How will I cope with all the changes?
  • Are there people I can talk to who have a similar diagnosis?
  • What do I do if I’m in an emotional crisis?

Social Workers can help you assess and identify needs, make referrals to support and educational groups, and help navigate future planning. They can also assist in completing a Living Will and/or Durable Power of Attorney for Healthcare.

Support for Caregivers

We recognize the time, commitment and energy that is required to care for your aging or sick loved one. While caregiving requires a lot of time and energy, it can also be highly rewarding. We also understand that your strength and need for support, as a caregiver, is paramount to ensuring our patients receive the care planning necessary for their health, safety, and well-being.

Social Workers at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital are available to offer education and guidance regarding caregiver resources. Each family situation is unique, and a Social Worker can partner with you to help consider the most effective and available resources based on where you are in your caregiving journey.
