Wound Healing Institute

The Wound Healing Institute at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital offers a team approach to wound, ostomy, and hyperbaric oxygen therapy care. As an advanced wound care center, our team works to heal your wounds such as, pressure ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers, venous and arterial ulcers, burns, non-healing surgical and/or traumatic wounds. 

The Wound Healing Institute's current healing rate is 8 weeks, as compared to the national average of 16 weeks. 

Services

Each of our patients receive a complete, comprehensive evaluation by our skilled clinical staff, and a wound treatment or ostomy care plan that is personalized to meet your needs and to promote healing.

Ostomy Care Clinic

The Ostomy Care Clinic supports individuals with ostomy self-care concerns or complications.

Foot Care Clinic

The Foot Care Clinic offers services for individuals who are unable to safely trim their own nails. 

Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment

Hyperbaric Oxygen (HBO) Treatment enhances the body's natural healing process through the inhalation of 100% oxygen in a total body chamber. It is used to treat a variety of conditions. 

Additional services include:

  • Compression Therapy Clinic
  • Advanced Healing Modalities: Compression, Negative Pressure Therapy, Ultrasound MIST, etc.
  • Outpatient Referrals to: Rehabilitation Services, Social Work Services, Orthotist, or Prosthetist
  • Nutrition Evaluation
  • Diabetes Education

Referrals and Insurance

A referral by a primary care or specialist referral is preferred.

Wound healing services are usually covered by health insurance benefits, but we recommend you check with your insurance company to verify coverage.  If your insurance does not cover our services, financial assistance is available for qualifying patients.

Accessibility

We are ADA accessible and can accommodate wheelchairs, stretchers, and motorized scooters. The hospital also offers a Care-Van service within the Seacoast area for patients who meet criteria for free transportation to appointments at the hospital.
